Piivert: Percussion-based Interaction for Immersive Virtual EnviRonmenTs

Piivert is a 3D interaction device that combines pressure sensors for all fingers with 3 or 6DOF tracking in order to enable musical gestures in immersive virtual musical. Musical gestures are separated based on Cadoz's categories: selection and most modulation gestures are "slower" and can thus be done graphically while excitation gestures, which require more temporal accuracy, are done with the pressure sensors. Several interaction techniques are also defined in order to match musical constraints such as relatively fast selection gestures, multiple objects selection, visual feedback ...
